Corporate social responsibility (CSR, also called corporate sustainability, sustainable business, corporate conscience, corporate citizenship or responsible business) is a type of international private business self-regulation. It is interesting to note the current trends in this concept of Corporate Social Responsibility. Whilst in yesteryears it was possible to describe CSR as an internal organisational policy or a business strategy, the situation today is that various international laws have been developed and various organisations have used their authority to push it beyond individual or even industry-wide initiatives. While it has been considered a form of corporate self-regulation for some time, since the last decade or so it has developed considerably from voluntary decisions at the level of individual organisations, to mandatory schemes at regional, national and even transnational level. Since the 1960s, corporate social responsibility has become attractive to a range of businesses and stakeholders.
RWR Industries Pty Ltd will put into place in its internal policies the following initiatives.
Whilst RWR Industries Pty Ltd is an organisation motivated to develop its business policies and grow as a company, it takes cognizance of the process of sustainability from the onset and puts into check its viability for long term goals. It will incorporate in its policies fluctuations of the world economy, keep abreast of current world and future world trends relating to its business to ensure its sustainability in a bullish and bearish market
Sustainability is the process of change, in which the exploitation of resources, the direction of investments, the orientation of technological development and institutional change are all in harmony and enhance both current and future potential to meet human needs and aspirations. The organising principle for sustainability is sustainable development, which includes the following interconnected domains: environment, economic and social. Sub-domains of sustainable development have also considered cultural, technological and political needs. Sustainable development, is the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
It was the Brundtland Report for the World Commission on Environment and Development (1987) that introduced the term of sustainable development.
Sustainability is a balancing act. The United Nation’s 1987 Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future clarifies that sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the well-being of future generations.
The horizon of the concept continues to expand. In 2000, the Earth Charter broadened the definition of sustainability and included the idea of a global society “Founded on respect for nature, universal human rights, economic justice, and a culture of peace.”
|To achieve these lofty goals, humans will have to re-examine their policies on:|
